For decades we’ve been handing out piles of post-it notes, highlighter pens, stress balls and chargers at careers fairs. The list of stuff goes on and on. A lot goes straight to landfill. We need to start thinking differently, and start now.
Our purpose is clear: to get organisations to take a more eco-friendly approach to early talent. We’re asking everyone in the sector to get involved— from students, university career services, employers and beyond. We all have the power to make a positive impact!
Our signatories have been working hard. Here’s a library of all our previous reports and a look into the difference we’ve made to our carbon footprint.
Global Good Awards 2024, GOLD WINNER- Individual Leader of the Year
One of the challenges of driving sustainability is to embed it in sectors which can all too easily think ‘nothing to do with us, Guv’. Recruitment is arguably one such, so Laura Yeates has founded the Sustainable Recruitment Alliance. Its aim: to cut the sector’s carbon emissions and resource use, and generally raise its awareness. The judges praised her as “a very powerful example of one individual setting out to make a difference, and galvanising others to bring it to life.”
Global Good Awards 2024, ONE TO WATCH – Start Up Enterprise of the Year
Judges praised our work as “an innovative way to disrupt the recruitment market by creating a strategic alliance with purposeful outcomes. A good example of collaboration with true purpose and impact.”

Don’t think that early talent is too small a field to make much of a difference. With over half a million graduate vacancies and apprenticeships annually, the results of our collective action could be truly significant.
Review your early talent processes and operations, whether it’s as a career service or an employer for early talent, think about your actions and identify opportunities to be more sustainable.
Reduce the emissions in your work. Whether it’s reducing the materials you produce, reducing waste, and/or finding sustainable alternatives to your current materials, slash emissions to the best of your ability.
Report what you’ve changed, so the Alliance can calculate the joint impact of all of our pledgers
COVID-19 has already encouraged many of us to change our working practices. Let’s continue that momentum – take further action and make the world a healthier and safer place for us all.
